-01- Are you liable to get a notice from the RIAA?
As most people on campus have probably heard, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has launched a new campaign against  copyright violations enabled by peer-to-peer (p2p) file sharing  on college campuses – focusing on big public universities, like NC State. So far 37 "pre-litigation letters” have been sent to our campus. The Chancellor has issued an Open Letter to the campus community to remind faculty and staff, as well as students, that the risks of illegal file sharing are real. For answers to frequently asked questions about copyright and campus procedures, see  http://www.ncsu.edu/copyright/.  Read the Chancellor's Open Letter on illegal file sharing at http://www.ncsu.edu/copyright/liability.html

-02- Using inFORM for your web-based  forms? Check the version number
ITD will end support for inFORM v2 on April 2. Web developers who have online forms that still use inFORM V2 will need to need to upgrade them to inFORM v3 before that date. The inFORM v3 application includes improved security features and has been in service on campus for over 3 years.  For more information and for instructions on how to upgrade forms, see the inFORM Help Page: http://www.ncsu.edu/tools/inform.html. If you have questions, please contact the NC State University Help Desk (515-HELP, help@ncsu.edu, help.ncsu.edu)

-03-Using the unsecure temp FTP service? This option ends April 3
As announced in January, the tmpftp.ncsu.edu service will be discontinued on April 3, 2007. This service was implemented as a temporary measure to facilitate the  transition to the secure ftp.ncsu.edu service. For more information about using  secure FTP, see the SysNews announcement at http://sysnews.ncsu.edu/news/458c0b0f. If you have questions,  contact the NC State University Help Desk (515-HELP, help@ncsu.edu, help.ncsu.edu)

-04- Using Realaudio streaming services? Update the URL before May 14
ITD will be upgrading campus Real Media services to the latest version on May 14. Because of new security and management features, the old format for the URLs to this service will not work after the implementation date.
Web developers, instructors, and other Real Media users should remove port numbers from their Real Media URLs as soon as possible:
For example, this:
http://realaudio.ncsu.edu:7070/ramgen/real.mp3
Should look like this:
http://realaudio.ncsu.edu/ramgen/real.mp3
