DST 2007 - Spring forward and check your calendarsDaylight Saving Time (DST) is beginning three weeks earlier and ending one-week later than usual this year. This may cause problems with  computers and software, including online calendars such as the  Oracle and Groupwise calendaring systems in use at NC State. If you use an an electronic calendaring system, be sure to double-check the times of your meetings scheduled during the the time period between the old and new DST transition dates, March 11-April 1, and October 28-November 4. The meeting times (and you) could be an hour late!

The new DST dates are being implemented nation-wide as  a provision of the U.S. Energy Preservation Act of 2005.  Unfortunately, most computer operating systems and devices do not have the new DST transition rules installed. Windows, Macintosh, Linux operating systems  will need to be patched or upgraded for local times to be calculated properly during the extended DST period. For more information see http://www.itd.ncsu.edu/dst/ contact the University Help Desk, help@ncsu.edu; 515-HELP.

Dreamweaver users: ftp.ncsu.edu requires secure FTP
To improve campus IT security, ITD has disabled unencrypted authenticated ftp connections to ftp.ncsu.edu. Anyone wishing to connect to ftp.ncsu.edu will now need to use the sftp protocol. The University Help Desk has received calls from Dreamweaver users who can no longer upload their files. For help with these issues and to download WinSCP, a freeware FTP program which supports secure FTP, see
http://help.ncsu.edu/solutions/all/3342.php

-03- Wireless Nomad users: Time to re-register mobile devices
ComTech reminds people
who have registered their mobile computing divices on the NC State Nomad System that it is time to re-register their devices.  Validly registered devices automatically authenticate themselves to the Nomad system and campus network using the user profile that is associated with the device. Devices need to be re-registered twice a year, and the person who registers a device on the network is responsible for its use. Any lost or stolen devices should be immediately “de-registered.” To register, re-register or de-register a device, go to nomad.ncsu.edu.
